Last night I found exactly what I was hoping for at The Twist of Lime in Metairie — musicianship at its finest, in a small club, on a Sunday night. Dauzat St. Marie, the husband-and-wife duo of Mat Dauzat and Heather St. Marie, brought a level of artistry you’d expect at an arena, yet there they were, just a few feet away, playing with a kind of honesty that is rare, and making the moment feel personal and true.
If you’re not familiar: critics and fans alike call them “the best vocal duo on the scene,” Rick Springfield has said they’re his favorite vocal duo aside from the Everly Brothers, and the praise is well deserved.
Their performances are known for being beautifully raw and intimate, with harmonies that feel deeply personal and songs that seem to come from someplace honest and unguarded.
Their sound reminds me of Jackopierce — acoustic warmth and real storytelling — but what Mat and Heather do together is unmistakably their own. There’s a bit of the Shovels & Rope dynamic, but Dauzat St. Marie are writing their own story with every note.
These two have shared stages with rock royalty — Rick Springfield, Pat Benatar, Sammy Hagar, Seal, REO Speedwagon, and more. And yet, … you can still catch them in a small venue like Twist of Lime, where every lyric and every harmony lands right in front of you.

Dauzat St. Marie are exactly why I seek out, and support live music. These folks are indie artists, who care about honing their craft. They care about putting something good into this world, and it shows. The songs are shatteringly beautiful, because they feel lived-in, honest, and real.
If you haven’t listened to Dauzat St. Marie yet, do yourself a favor and give them a spin. They deserve way more attention and all the good vibes we can send their way. Here’s to the artists who give everything on stage, and to nights that remind us why live music matters.
